Z Wave Chicken Coop Door

Simple z-wave chicken coop door. z-wave. so, technically this is coop automation, but i thought i'd share in case any one might be interested. i built this chicken coop door with a gravity lock to keep my hens happy and safe. its just in the testing phase right now, but it has been working reliably for about a week or so.. This is a follow up to my original project, a 12 volt z-wave smartthings controlled chicken door that opened a sliding door at sunrise and closed it 20 minutes after sunset. the z-wave version became a jumble of wires and components. it worked but it wasn’t very pretty with limited function. i decided to dive into raspberry pi as a cleaner solution and to learn something new. below is a list. Automated chicken coop door using samsung smartthings v2. diy z-wave controlled linear actuator / automatic chicken door / dc motor z-wave forward & reverse - duration: 3:13. erick bostrom.

Also you should check if the door is not blocked by a chicken. depending on how much hardware you are fitting inside this chicken coop, how are you going to count your chickens? 1 like. vradatta the next z-wave device is like 6-7mtrs away, that should work. shellies are wifi devices not zwave. 2 likes.. It is this level of detail in the development of the coopboss that has drawn me to it. i can’t wait to try it out. our coop is 170’ from the st hub. our network is z-wave, so i just ordered some cheap zigbee light bulbs to act as repeaters that i can put out in the yard (if needed) and do some testing.. As it happens, both the chicken coop project and the pet door projects are on the list marked “pets.” in the project report section of the quick browse lists. again, i think the dog door projects have the most applicable equipment, you may even be able to downsize from that depending on the type of doors you are using..
